New Delhi: The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has received adequate support from the government machinery with its own Ministries and department organizing clean-up drives and cleanliness awareness programmes through Swachhta Pakhwada every month. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), which organised Swachhata Pakhwada from June 16 to 30, distributed awards for the programme at Delhi. Several ancillary organisations of the MSME such as National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) were felicitated for the role their participation in the Pakhwada. Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises was present at the event to hand over the awards.
The two-week long Pakhwada saw the enthusiastic participation of Ministry officials, who undertook several activities during the fortnight to inculcate a culture of Swachhata within the ministry and its several ancillary wings. Swachhata pledges were undertaken by MSME officials and workers across the country. The employees undertook activities like rainwater harvesting and construction of garbage pits. In Telangana, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, the MSME departments adopted government school toilets and pledged to maintain them. KVIC adopted the Jagatpur Village in Delhi for a year. Within the timeframe, the village will be transformed into an ideal Swachh habitation, with adequate public and household toilets and a comprehensive waste management system. A total of eight public toilets, five residential colonies, one village and one park have been adopted for a year by the Ministry.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is changing the world’s perception of India. The present government has given shape to Gandhi’s policies of a clean India. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is not just a toilet construction programme, but one of the world’s largest transformation programmes, said Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
‘The Ministry will continue to focus on cleanliness in the coming days, said Mr Singh. The Ministry and its wings are focusing on creating awareness among micro, medium and small enterprises on utilising green technologies and setting up waste management systems in their organisations. The Ministry has taken up initiatives like awareness campaigns and regular monitoring to educate MSMEs about waste management and effluent treatment, so that all MSMEs can simultaneously contribute towards the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
